The MMO scene right now for me is kind of dead. Warcraft is fun to a point, as there is only so much PvE I can take and do before doing the repeated quests get mind numbing. Sure, there is an expansion coming out at some point, but it still ends up being rinse and repeat at end levels for limited play time for players. Some people like that, I don't.
So this got me wondering what to do to remedy this. There was LOTRO which is still one of my favorite for getting PvE right. But even then the PvE is what is the problem in most cases, it's just plain boring doing the same thing over and over to a scripted fight. SO that put them out of the picture.
Next was an old game I had almost completely written off due to remembering how bad it was at launch and not thinking it would ever survive, and that was Warhammer Online. So I decide to play the Endless Trial they have going on to see if I can notice any improvements and if the game even came close to being fun.
After all this time I spent on the free version, all I can say is "WHOA!". Seriously, I think Mythic heard the complaints finally and did what they needed to do to get this game in shape. It runs smooth. It looks great. It's fast getting into a Scenario. The fights are happening all the time. It's amazing!
Some might say that the changes came too late, but are you sure? There is the lull in the genre right now where WoW has limited patches with content coming until their next big xpac. STO is a let down and other games just aren't there et. So people looking for a new game will probably see the Endless Trial as something to do for free while looking, and if they are like me, will get hooked again fairly quickly.
I am looking forward to finally going in game and doing what I had set out to do so long ago, it should be fun.
